Postdoctoral Opportunities in Statistical Genetics/Genomics
Description: The statistical genetics research group of Dr. Yuehua Cui at Mic
higan State University invites applicants for a 2-3 year Postdoctoral Fellow
position focusing on statistical analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
The successful applicant will work with Dr. Cui to develop novel statistical
methods for integrative genomic data analysis (including whole-genome sequen
cing, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and copy number variants), collaborating with scienti
sts from MSU, University of Wisconsin and Virginia Tech to carry out real dat
a analysis. Specifically, the fellow will: (1) Analyze DNA variants, RNA-seq
gene expression, ChIP-seq and copy number variants (CNVs) data, and associate
different levels of genetic and genomic data with phenotypic variation in a
newly funded NSF project aimed to understanding how genetic and epigenetic va
riation determines plant vigor in potato; (2) Develop novel statistical and c
omputational methods to integrate various sources of “omics” data to elucid
ate the genetic and epigenetic bases underlying the variation of complex trai
ts. Review of applications begins immediately.
Position Qualifications: Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Statisti
cs/Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or other relevant dis
cipline with strong quantitative research background; Strong background in st
atistical modeling of large scale high dimensional data; Strong computational
skills (R or C/C ) (Python or Perl) in Unix/Linux environment; Excellent
written and oral communication skills. Experience of analyzing next generati
on sequence data is a plus.
Salary Range: Based on NIH scale and MSU guideline.
