Background
N. gonorrhoeae is a human-specific bacterial pathogen that colonises the mucosal epithelial cell layers in the urogenital tract and causes the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhoea. It has developed numerous virulence factors but the extent of how N. gonorrhoeae is able to colonize the epithelia and direct our immune system for dissemination and spread to the deeper tissues remains to be answered. Furthermore, there are major fears that in the near future gonococcal infections will become untreatable. Therefore, there is an urgent need to generate gonococcal vaccines because prophylactic vaccination is the best way to continue to combat and prevent this disease.
A postdoc position is offered to investigate host-microbe interactions during colonization and dissemination of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and on vaccine development against this bacterial pathogen.
Qualifications
1. Microbiology, molecular microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or other related PhD degree.
2. Excellent abilities are required in both spoken and written English and Mandarin.
3. Solid technical expertise related to microbiology, molecular microbiology, and biochemistry techniques, including molecular cloning, recombinant protein expression, PCR, cell culture, etc.
4. Animal experience and experience in working with bacterial pathogens in a P2 laboratory environment are favorable.
5. Self-initiative and ability to work independently, be able to rationalize and coordinate work, teamwork.
