Expression of interest for a position of post-doctoral researcher
Project: “Design and execution of shake table tests on rocking structures”

The Research Committee of the University of Patras announces the opening of one position for a post-doctoral researcher to work on a research project in structural engineering with Principal Investigator (PI) Prof. N. Makris, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras. The project «Seismic protection of bridges via rocking of their piers which re-center with gravity-learning from ancient free-standing Temples: Experimental and theoretical studies» is implemented under the “ARISTEIA” Action of the “OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING” and is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and National Resources. The candidate is expected to undertake the “Design, planning and execution of shake table tests on articulated-rocking structures”. The contract will be for a duration of 15 months starting no later than February 1, 2013.

Expressions of interest can be submitted by applicants meeting the following criteria:
Scientific-training skills: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in civil engineering with expertise and experience in experimental testing of structures under seismic excitation, the design and implementation of experimental setups and knowledge of testing, measuring and interpreting the response of systems
Experience: Candidates must have working experience from research institutions on a subject similar to the one of this project.
Other conditions – criteria: previous experience using ANCO shaking table controllers will be considered as a plus.

No restrictions regarding nationality of the candidates will be employed and the postdoctoral researcher will be selected only on the basis on the skills required to conduct the required research. However, candidates must hold a PhD degree and will be required to work full-time on the project for the whole period he/she will be covered by the contract (i.e. they should not hold any other post).

The research will be carried out on Earthquake Simulator Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras. The selection process will be based on the assessment of the essential, additional and desired qualifications. The University of Patras, through the Scientific Coordinator of the project Prof. N. Makris, reserves the right to call any of the candidates to interview. In such case, no reimbursement of expenses will apply.
